WEEK 1 | WEEK 2 | WEEK 3 | WEEK 4
I think the title says it all for this week, end of post….
Ok to be real that kinda how I feel about writing this post because so much has been going on in the world around us that the last thing I want to do is share about all the projects that have been happening around here, and the projects did not go super fast these past two weeks. It has been hard to focus and keep the creative juices flowing with so much heaviness around us. At the same time, it is the projects, the animals, and my kids who keep me motivated to move forward.
Y’all (I sound like my sister right now) we have a bridge! The bridge is the first thing we have hired out to have done by someone other than us, let’s face it our tiny tractor while super cool would not have managed to lift steel beams in place, and if we had done the bridge ourselves we would likely be walking across the log to our house for the next few months.
We hired a local company to come in and get the job done, and that they did. In the past two weeks, we went from no bridge to a pretty amazing, sturdy, shouldn’t have to touch it EVER again bridge. With the bridge up, not only can I do my regular grocery shopping trips again, but we can start to put everything in place on the beach.
What we had planned for the week:
Finish the bridgeBuild the remaining pieces for the beach hut- Paint the chairs
Clean the storage boxesRepaint the planterGet MORE baby chicken
Much like week 3 of this One Room Challenge, the baby chickens were NOT in the plan, but if you follow my Instagram you will know that my husband has a tendency to bring home “surprises” and this week he had a friend who got a bunch of baby chicks only to find out he could not keep them where he lived, so guess who has them?! Am I mad? Nope. I Love our chickens they are so fun to watch and can cheer up any bad day.
A “new” planter
Besides the new additions to our family and the bridge being completed, the girls helped me give a planter I built a few years ago for my first coworking space a facelift. It has been sitting outside my moms garden for the past year and was looking a little sad, so I gave it a new paint and primer coat of white, and then we used all of the colors I was looking at to paint the Adirondack chairs and had some fun painting it.
I think it is really important to include my girls in these projects. I want them to feel a part of it, but I also want them to appreciate the time, effort, and heart that goes into every project we do on the property and in the house. They also love doing it. I love when I find random pieces of wood nailed together because they were “building” something or when my daughter says, “I will design a cat bed we don’t need to buy one.”
This week I also finished building the second panel for the beach hut and I am REALLY looking forward to this week because I am taking Friday off of work and Glenn and I will be able to get the beach hut built and start pulling everything together down on the beach. There are only two weeks left and this week is going to be huge in starting to see everything come together.
Some fun stuff
In the past two weeks we did have a little fun between all the heavy and the work. My baby turned 7! So in true quarantine style I made her a special cake that we then had to eat all of by ourselves! We did also go out on the lake for the first time this summer and I wake-boarded for the first time on probably 5 years mainly because my girls asked if I knew how in a VERY questioning tone, so of course I had to show them that mom has a few tricks up her sleeve.
We also did a fun outdoor movie for Quinn’s birthday and tested out the beach chairs.
Next week is going to be a good one. I hope that you are going to start to see our space all come together and depending on timing I have a secret project up my sleeve 😉 But until then you should definitely take check out all of the other amazing projects happening right now during this One Room Challenge, there are some spectacular projects.

• 4 years agoA beautiful bridge! This definitely captured my attention, I’m a bridge engineer by day and I never expected to see a bridge in a design event!! Its a cute one and I love your little outdoor movie night!

• 4 years agoIt was not the first project I thought to do, but our bridge was nearing the end of its life so I thought what the heck lets make a design project out of it. I love that you are a bridge engineer, looking for inspiration was actually very difficult being that there are not many residential bridges.
