Spring ORC- Week 3: The tent space

Well, we made it to week 3 of the One Room Challenge and I must say I am relieved that this is an 8-week challenge and not 6 like last time. Even though it feels like not much progress has been made, I think we are finally getting close to the point of things moving along quickly.

We finished moving the wood and clearing the space where the tent will sit and we even had a chance to put the tent up briefly so that we could mark out the area for where the base needs to be built.

I am going to make this week short and sweet because I need to get back outside and get to work on some of the projects for next week.

This is what we had planned for the week:

  • Clear the ground
  • Mark out the tent space
  • Start building the foundation for the tent
  • Calculate lumber for the deck

What We Did This Week

Clear the ground

Glenn got back in the tractor seat and while we still have a lot of wood to mill we were able to roll the logs out of the area so that we could flatten the space for where the tent will be.

These logs are just massive so rolling them was a fun project in itself.

Marking the tent

Once the logs were out of the way we were able to set the tent up briefly in order to put markers for where we need to build the platform and deck.

Now let’s talk about this tent for a minute! I am beyond thrilled to be working with Psyclone tents USA on this project as they have sponsored this amazing tent. I am not even sure I should refer to it as a tent but maybe a mini house is better.

Psyclone tents were started in Melbourne Australia in 2008, but in 2019 they started servicing the US with a distribution center in Carlsbad Ca. They have been absolutely amazing to work with and so knowledgeable.

I am not going to show you the full tent JUST YET, but I will tell you it is pretty amazing! I went with the 5 meters fixed floor model and it has 10 windows which will allow for good ventilation in the space. I will be sharing the full process of putting the tent up, but I can tell you on the first try with no real plan it only took us about 15 minutes to get it up.

Other participants

Want to see what other participants are up to and how their spaces are coming along, make sure to check out the week 2 post on One Room Challenge. This is such a great bi-annual event put on and sponsored by Better Home and Gardens one of my all-time favorite publications.

I met so many amazing new friends and found inspiration from other challenge participants. Make sure to check out all of the amazing reveals from the other designers who participated here.
